Competitions
The competition diary provides a wide variety of competitive and casual formats to suit all handicaps and abilities.
There are 3 singles competitions for the Fred Morgan Bowl (stroke play), the Jim Timmins salver (Stableford) and The Roy Wade Trophy (Stableford). Other competitions include a knock out singles match play for The John Miles Cup and a pairs competition for the Millenium Bowl. During the winter months there are also several more regular competitions. Trophies and prizes for the winners are handed out at the annual Christmas lunch.
Matches
A highlight of the calendar are Matches with 14 other local clubs played from March to October inclusive. Selection is organised by the Seniors Captain to ensure that all those who wish to play have a “fair share” of home and away games. These matches are played in a friendly but competitive 4BBB match play format and followed by a convivial meal and a few words from the respective captains. It is customary for the host team to buy the drinks. Regular clubs who participate in these inter club matches comprise of Oswestry, Wrekin, Ingestre, Bridgnorth, Oxley Park, Hawkstone Park, South Staffs, Beau Desert, Arscott, Lilleshall, Brocton, Stafford Castle, Enville, Stone. There is also an annual competition for the Jim Griffiths Trophy against the Ladies.
Other Activities
The Senior Captain organises an away day - individual stableford format - which is open to all Seniors and regularly attracts 50 or more participants - there are a variety of prizes to be won followed by an informal meal with the overall winner collecting The John Breen Cup.
A separately organised but closely affiliated group runs a singles Stableford competition (fondly referred to as the TAFFS) every Tuesday and Friday morning around 8.30 to 9.30 a.m. A £2 entry fee and cash prizes are handed out on the day.
Everyone age 55+ is encouraged to get involved and sure to find a very welcoming group of likeminded golfers. To get involved check the seniors noticeboard in the club house for details of the latest events.
We look forward to your participation and company.
