Ladies section

The ladies have a thriving section and enjoy playing regular club competitions, league and friendly matches as well as holding many social events through the year. Ladies competitions are organised by the Ladies Committee and the Competitions Secretary who schedule a wide range of competitions, events and Ladies Opens during the year.

Lady Captain

The Ladies Captain this year is Clare Gilg, supported by the Lady Vice Captain, Ann Peters and the Ladies Committee. Clare’s charity for the year is Midlands Air Ambulance and, together with the Men’s Captain, they are holding many fund raising events.

In her role as Lady Captain, Clare is keen to support and be involved in the Club’s initiative to develop and expand the Junior Section under the direction of the Club Professional, Josh Charnock and his Assistant Professional, Max Smith, as well as encouraging more new ladies to take up golf under the Women In Golf Charter.

Clare is looking forward to her year in Office and wishes everyone a successful and happy year’s golfing.

Competitions

Ladies weekly competitions (both 18 hole and 9 hole) are on Thursdays and either on Saturdays or Sundays, with a full diary of competitions running throughout the season. Ladies competitions include individual qualifying competitions, team events both ladies and mixed and match-play competitions. The Ladies section plays for several trophies throughout the summer months and holds regional and national qualifying competitions. There are a mixture of drawn and non-drawn competitions throughout the year and the club also compete in mixed competitions against other local clubs.

Lady Captain’s Day in June is a highlight of our calendar where members old and new join us for golf and lunch.

Fixtures

Shifnal Ladies have teams which have been very successful playing in competitive matches in the Shropshire County Scratch, Handicap and Mini Leagues. Friendly matches are popular and are played either home or away at other local clubs and open to all lady members. As members of the Shropshire Ladies County Golf Association, ladies can play in a variety of County cup competitions.

Each year we enjoy a day away on an exchange basis with another club and we also have a 2-day Away Break with Lady Captain at a venue further afield which is extremely popular.

Joining

The Ladies Section is delighted to welcome new members. The Lady Captain meets all new members to have an informal chat and welcome them to the Club. New Member’s Meetings are held during the year. All new members are allocated a ‘Golf Buddy’ who provides information on the workings of the Ladies Section, to introduce them to other ladies and to help new golfers to obtain a Handicap Index.
